If you talk to various people, you will get a lot of different thoughts and opinions about tattoos. Some will be negative and some positive. A lot of people use tattoos simply to express who they are and what they do, like or prefer. But however, there are also people who are totally against tattoos and really cannot imagine why would somebody want a tattoo permantently on their skin. And both sides have some very valid and solid points. Tattooing, the process where the ink is embedded under your skin to produce design that will last, has been known for thousands of years. Many cultures practiced tattooing for status symbols and to look better. Although that native and tribal tattoos have become very popular recently, most modern tattoos are done mostly of adornment.

So, should you get a tattoo? The answers are different from person to person. But no matter who you are there are a few things you should consider. Answer these questions honestly and openly and you will know if you are the right person for a tattoo. Firstly, do you particularly like a specific picture or image or you just want to get a tattoo to look "cool" and "hot"? Most of the people who got themselves a tattoo did it because they liked the certain image, and now they do not regret it and they are satisfied with it. Before you get yourself a tattoo, think if you will still like the same image ten or twenty years later. Can you see yourself with the picture on your skin when you are eighty years old? Because the picture will still be there.

And remember, tattoos are permanent. So don't just go into the nearest tattoo parlor and pick a tattoo design you like. Although it may be a good idea to get some ideas for your tattoo design, there is no rush to get a tattoo. Choose an image you like, think about it for some time and then decide if this is really something you want on your body.

If you have picked the image you like, decide where on your body you want it. Avoid getting tattoos on your hands, neck or face. Many employers do not like to hire a person who has tattoos on visible parts of body. So consider how visible you want your tattoo. Would you like it to be visible when you are wearing T-shirt? What about shorts? Think about it.

Finally, get your tattoo at a respectable and well known tattoo parlor. All of the equipment that will be used should be sterile. Be picky about your tattoo artist aswell. Browse through his portfolio and let him sketch you tattoo on a sheet of paper before he draws it on your skin. You really have to be 100% happy with your tattoo!
